Improvements to the farm
After I won the World Barista Championship in 2015, I decided to donate money to La Huerta. This money was donated so that they could purchase stainless tanks, support the renovation of the mill and also purchase two large African beds.
In total, it was about $5500 USD – it may not seem like a lot of money in the long run, but it has made a lot of positive difference at the farm and we have since seen a great improvement in the quality of the coffee there.
Finca La Huerta
Santa Barbara is one of my favourite producing regions in the world. It has been my pleasure to visit there many times over the years, and to have establish close relationships with communities and farm there.
Finca La Huerta (‘the garden’) farm is approximately 40 ha and located in Santa Barbara, Honduras. When I first started working together with the Lanza family, who manage the farm, they had very small facilities and did not have enough space to process their coffee.
The mill was old and not functioning properly, and they also didn’t have enough african beds to dry the coffee properly. I knew that there was such incredible potential for the coffee from this farm, given that they had the right resources.
