Helping the school
Shortly after my visit in 2015, myself and the Project Origin team organised a donation of more than $1000 USD to help fund renovations to the school.
This money has helped to renovate their facilities and ensures that the children of the region have a safe place to play and learn, without having to be schooled somewhere far away from where their coffee-producing parents live and work.

The Marcala school
Being a generous and caring man, Don Fabio has found ways to give back to the community outside of coffee. He personally finances a school in Marcala, the region he lives in in Honduras’ south.
He started this school over 15 years ago in a rural area of Marcala, and there are around 50 children currently enrolled in the school.
Luckily, Don Fabio receives additional support from coffee buyers like myself, with whom he has a direct trade relationships. When I was in Honduras in 2015 (after the WBC) I really wanted to see the school and to provide some support so they can keep improving and also maintaining facilities.
Meeting Don Fabio
The first time I met Don Fabio Caballero, I was a bit starstruck. I had driven 5 hours from Tegucialpa, Honduras to his house in Marcala, in the hope of talking to him for a short while and if I was lucky, sharing a coffee with him.
We formed an instant connection and not only spoke all afternoon and evening, but I ended up staying in Marcala and exploring his farms the entire next day. He has been one of my greatest role models, not only in coffee but in his approach to life and family.
