The Coffee Man Book – Mirabelle Farm

Update: Cup scores increasing

With the funds from Dennis and The Coffee Man book sales, we have seen great improvement on the farm.

With Tim’s guidance and education, the workers have managed to increase the cup scores from an average of 78 points in 2018 to 83 points in 2019. The price per pound has also increased, with farmers now receiving between $1.60-$1.70/lb for their coffee (which is much better than the previous price).

We look forward to seeing more improvements and changes on the farm!

Dennis Djorgevic hangs Finca Mira sign

Dennis Djorgevic hangs Finca Mira sign

As part of his donation to The Coffee Man book Kickstarter campaign, my good friend Dennis Djorgevic donated a very generous amount (thank you, Dennis!).

To celebrate his donation to the campaign, which has enabled us to help communities like the one at Mirabelle farm, Dennis was allocated a plot on this farm to name. He chose to name the plot ‘Finca Mira’, named after his wife.

Seeing these images of Dennis hanging the Finca Mira sign made me incredibly happy – not only has this book and its proceeds managed to help different communities around the world, but it has brought communities together.

Thank you, Dennis and Mira.

With the first funds from The Coffee Man book sales coming in, we have been able to provide $5,000 USD to the workers on this farm.

Tim from El Arbol has also been of great help to this community, travelling to support and guide them through education on how to improve their growing and processing.

We are also currently organising one of the Kickstarter donors and a great friend of mine, Dennis Djorgevic, to visit the farm to hang the sign of the plot he named – more updates to come!

Release of The Coffee Man

Release of The Coffee Man

With the release of The Coffee Man book, we can now begin raising funds and finding ways to help this coffee farm in Nicaragua and other areas.

We have been in contact with Claudia and Tim, who work with the El Arbol farm in Dipilto – they have said they will lend a hand in repairing this farm but sharing knowledge and skills.

Release of The Coffee Man

Mirabelle farm

Before I began writing The Coffee Man: Journal of a World Barista Champion I came into contact with a coffee farm in Nicaragua that was in great need of repair. The farm was very isolated, had a very dry climate and it was extremely hard to grow coffee.

I decided that as part of the funds used from book proceeds to help communities, I would try and help this farm to improve their quality and produce more income for its workers.
